The CSC-Faculty Federation Union (CSC-FFU) held its general assembly and election last Friday.

Out going FFU president Serelino Tasarra and company delivered their respective terminal reports.

The GA was highlighted by the election of FFU Officers who will serve for two years (2011-2013).

Four faculty members filed their candidacy for the presidency, namely: Prof. Jocelyn S. Ibones, Prof. Danilo Murillo, Prof. Serelino Tasarra and Prof. Estrella Tribiana in alphabetical order.

All candidates for the presidency were from the College of Arts and Sciences. Apparently, no one from the other Colleges was interested from aiming the much coveted position.

Of the four candidates, only Prof. Murillo managed to organize a party called "Faculty Achievers and Responsive Educators" (FARE). The others remained as independents.

Murillo's party-line up proved a deciding factor in the four-cornered fight. Several months before the election, Murillo was already campaigning personally—one –on- one. Not only that. His wife Vacy, played a crucial role in that closely contested election.

Murillo won over the incumbent Tasarra by only a matter of 8 votes (56 vs 48).

The president-elect said after the election that "had Tasarra formed a party he would have won the presidency for the second term ".

The FFU presidency is a much coveted position in view of its crucial representation in the CSC Board of Trusees (BOT). As a faculty trustee, the president will represent the interests of the faculty in general in the BOT. He will be a part of the policy-making functions as mandated in the charter.

Congratulations then to the following officers-elect of the CSC-FFU: Prof. Danilo Murillo, president; Prof. Roger Tagle, vice-president; Dr. Maria Charlene Cantar, secretary; Dr. Fe T. Gianan, treasurer; Engr. Belen Tapado, auditor; and Engr. Jhoman Socito and Prof. Pedro Tumaque, business managers.

As of writing, the officers-elect have yet to meet to choosetheir inducting officer and date of their oath-taking ceremonies.

Kudos to the following members of the COMELEC for a very successful election conducted:

Engr. Bienvenido Berjuega, chairman; Prof. Josephine Torrente, secretary and Dr. Alvin Ogalesco, member.
